About TurkicNames

TurkicNames helps parents and curious readers find names from the Turkic languages, with meanings you can trust.

Baby-name lists on the web often repeat each other, and many meanings for Turkic names are guesses that have been copied until they look like facts. We wanted a place where every meaning is clearly labelled: Documented meanings link to sources you can check, Editorial meanings come from our own research and are upgraded when a source is found.

What you will find

  • 1164 published names across 9 Turkic languages, each with a meaning and its use in at least one language; meanings are labelled Documented, Likely or Editorial.
  • Spellings in the original scripts: Turkish and Uzbek Latin, Kazakh and Kyrgyz Cyrillic, Uyghur Arabic script.
  • 27 name elements, such as ay (moon) and gül (rose), linked to every name that contains them.
  • Original guides on how Turkic names are built and written, and free tools to swipe, generate, compare and check names.

What we do not do

We do not invent meanings or names, and we publish no popularity rankings without official statistics; the generator and the tools only draw from published entries. A name is published only when its meaning and usage are documented; the rest waits in our research queue. Read the editorial standards and see our sources.

Who runs it

TurkicNames is an independent project run from Munich, Germany. Legal details are in the imprint.
