Baby Name Generator

Set the sound and the family fit you want, then draw from 2,812 real Turkic baby names across 10 languages. Every suggestion is a published entry with a meaning, an origin, the languages it is recorded for and a page of its own.

The generator never mixes syllables into new words. It filters and shuffles a list of names that we have researched, so that you can read the label and the sources before you fall for a name.

Name and surname checks

Four objective checks run in your browser. They notice letters and counts, not taste.

  • Same sound at the join

When a given name ends with the same three letters your surname ends with, or begins with the letters it begins with, a short note appears on the card.

  • Repeated first letters

Matching initials are easy to confuse on bags and forms. A name whose first letter equals your surname's is marked.

  • Siblings that fit together

Enter your other children's names to hide matching first letters or endings, or to sort by similar rhythm.

  • Length and rhythm

Syllable and letter counts help you judge the sound of the full name.

What this generator does and who it is for

It is made for parents who like the idea of a Turkic name but do not yet know which one. Instead of scrolling an alphabetical list, you describe what matters (a girl's or boy's name, a short name, a name from a certain language, a meaning such as light or courage) and the page returns twelve names at a time that fit.

The collection behind it holds 2,812 names with a recorded meaning. Of these, 1,027 are labelled Documented because a cited source states the meaning, 191 are labelled Likely because the meaning is read from the parts of the name, and 1,594 are labelled Editorial because the meaning comes from our own research and has not yet been linked to a cited source.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Start with the quick theme and rhythm chips above the results if you only have a feeling, such as light or a two-syllable name. The list updates at once.
  2. Open the filter panel for finer control: gender, language, origin, label, syllables, length, and the letters a name starts or ends with.
  3. Add the family fit if you want it. Type your surname and a few sibling names; the results show a short note where a name repeats the first letter or the last letters of one of them, and you can hide those names.
  4. Type names you already like. We then rank names that share a meaning theme or an element with them higher.
  5. Press Generate for a new random order, or Show me another set to move on. Use the bookmark to keep a name in your shortlist and the cross to pass.

How the filters work

  • Used across languages. We count the languages a name is documented in. Used in 3+ languages describes 190 names, Used in 2 languages 275, and One language 2,347. This is a fact about our records and says nothing about how many babies receive the name.
  • Label. Documented, Likely and Editorial describe the evidence behind the meaning, not the quality of the name.
  • Meaning theme. The quick chips group our 19 published themes: Nature & sky (nature and seasons, sky and heaven, flowers, animals); Light & radiance (light, sun, moon, stars); Strength & nobility (strength and courage, leadership and nobility, victory); Joy & hope (joy and happiness, love and affection, beauty); Wisdom & spirit (wisdom and knowledge, faith and devotion, purity, life and soul). A name matches a chip when it carries at least one of those themes.
  • Syllables and length. Syllables are counted from vowel groups, which is reliable for most Turkic spellings but is an approximation. Short means up to four letters, medium five or six, long seven or more.
  • Letters. Starts with and Ends with accept several letters separated by commas, ignoring accents, so E also finds names that begin with Ə or É.

Results are ordered by a seeded shuffle. The same link always shows the same list, which is why you can send a result page to a partner and both of you see the same names.

What the generator cannot do

  • It does not rank names by popularity, rarity or trend. We have no verified birth statistics, so the page shows no counts of babies and makes no claim about what is fashionable.
  • It only offers names that have a recorded meaning and a documented use in at least one language. A name that is missing may simply not be researched yet.
  • Gender is shown as recorded for the name. Many Turkic names are used for both, and usage differs by language and family.

Practical tips for parents

Say the full name aloud, with the surname and with each sibling's name, before you decide. Names that run into each other, such as one ending in the sound that the next begins with, are easier to spot in speech than on paper.

Check how the spelling travels. If the child will grow up in a country whose alphabet lacks letters such as ə, ğ, ı or ң, decide early on the form you will use on documents, and keep it the same everywhere. The name pages list the variants that are in use.

Questions and answers

Are the generated names real?

Yes. Each result is a published entry from our database, with its own page, meaning, origin and sources. The generator filters and orders existing names; it never creates new ones.

Does the generator show popularity?

No. We do not hold verified official birth statistics, so we do not show how popular a name is.

Is my surname sent to your server?

No. The surname and the sibling names are used only in your browser to flag or hide names. Names you already like are sent so that we can find similar ones, and they are not stored.

What do Documented, Likely and Editorial mean?

Documented means a cited source states the meaning. Likely means the meaning is read from the parts of the name or from an identical word. Editorial means the meaning comes from our own research and is not yet linked to a cited source.

Why do some names appear in several languages?

Many names travel between related languages. A name is listed under each language that we have documented use for; 190 names are documented in three or more.

Can I save the names I like?

Yes. The bookmark adds a name to your shortlist, which is kept in your browser's local storage on your device. The heart is a public like instead, and it only adds to the total shown on the name.

How do I know a name works with my other children's names?

Type their names into the siblings field, or open the sibling name finder from any card. For example, with Gülgün as a sibling, names with the same first letter are flagged.

Data & methodology

The generator reads the same published data as the name pages. A name is eligible when it has a published meaning and at least one documented language. Filters are applied to that list, the matches are ordered by a seeded shuffle, and names you like only change the order.

Language use comes from documented usage rows, themes from documented theme relations, origins from published origin rows folded into broad groups, and syllables from a vowel-group count of the spelling.
