Name generator
Kazakh Baby Name Generator
Kazakh names are often compounds of native words such as ай ‘moon’ or жан ‘soul’ with Arabic and Persian parts. The generator uses names recorded for Kazakh in our database, with the Kazakh Cyrillic spelling shown beside the Latin one.
Latin spellings of Kazakh names vary because Kazakhstan is moving from Cyrillic to a Latin alphabet; we show the form given in our sources and list the variants on each name page.

What is in the Kazakh collection
Our Kazakh collection holds 1,555 names with a recorded meaning: 490 girls' names, 1,020 boys' names and 45 used for both. 339 carry the Documented label, 292 Likely and 924 Editorial. The themes that occur most often are leadership and nobility, moon and flowers. By origin, the largest groups are Turkic, Arabic and Persian. 400 of the names are also documented in at least one other language, most often Turkish, Kyrgyz and Bashkir.
Kazakh spelling and script
Kazakh Cyrillic adds the letters ә, ғ, қ, ң, ө, ұ, ү, һ and і to the Russian alphabet, and each of them changes the pronunciation. Aigerim is written Әйгерім in Kazakh, and the Latin form you see on a passport may differ again.
Kazakhstan has announced a move to a Latin alphabet with a target year of 2031, and the draft has changed several times. That is why we show the Latin spelling recorded in our sources, mark it as a romanization, and list the variants on each name page.
How a full Kazakh name is written
A Kazakh patronymic is the father's name plus -uly (son of) or -qyzy (daughter of), written as one word. Russian-style -ov / -ova surnames are also common.
The traditional patronymic joins the father's name and -uly (son of) or -qyzy (daughter of) into one word: the daughter of Nurlan is Nurlanqyzy. Russian-style -ov and -ova surnames are also common, and the generator can preview either.
- Patronymic -uly / -qyzy: Nurlan + uly = Nurlanuly (son of Nurlan); -qyzy for a daughter.
- Russian-style -ov / -ova: Common since the Soviet period, e.g. Nurlanov.
Practice varies by family, country and period.
Using the generator for Kazakh names
- Choose a theme such as Light & radiance or Nature & sky; many Kazakh names are compounds of words for the moon, light or the soul.
- Turn on Show a full name and choose the -uly / -qyzy pattern to see the one-word patronymic written out.
- Open a name to compare the Cyrillic spelling with the Latin forms that are in use.
Practical tips for Kazakh parents
Decide in advance which Latin spelling the family will use abroad. Aigerim, Aygerim and Äygerim all circulate, and a birth certificate in one spelling and a passport in another cause avoidable paperwork.
Compound names are easy to split wrongly. Our pages list the parts a name is built from, which helps you check that the meaning you like is the one the name actually carries.
If relatives in Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan will use the name too, look at its page for the neighbouring spellings, such as Aybek and Oybek.
What to keep in mind about Kazakh data
- Many Kazakh meanings are labelled Likely, because they are read from the name's parts rather than from a source about the name itself.
- Spellings come from the KazPER list and from Wiktionary; a regional pronunciation may differ from the spelling shown.

Questions and answers
What is a Kazakh patronymic?
The father's name plus -uly (son of) or -qyzy (daughter of), written as one word. Russian-style -ov and -ova surnames are also common, and the convention option shows both.
Why do I see two Latin spellings?
Kazakh has no single settled Latin spelling yet, so names such as Aigerim or Aygerim can both appear. The name page lists the variants we found.
Where do the names come from?
From the KazPER name list (CC BY 4.0), Wiktionary and our own research. Names without a recorded meaning are not offered.
Does KazPER give meanings?
No. KazPER records spellings, language and gender. Meanings come from Wiktionary, from composing the name's parts, or from our research, and each page says which.
Why are so many Kazakh names compounds?
Many are built from two words, for example one for the moon or light and one for a quality. The name page lists the parts. Meanings read from parts carry the Likely label unless a source states the meaning.
Will the planned Latin alphabet change my child's name?
It may change how the name is written in official documents in Kazakhstan, not the name itself. Keep a record of the Cyrillic spelling.
Can I find Kazakh names that Uzbek and Kyrgyz families also use?
Yes. Use the Used in 3+ languages filter, then open a name to see each language's spelling.
